What does a Doctor do anyways?

I bet all of you have gone to a Doctor before, so you probably already know what they do, but you might not know all the things they do. So before becoming a doctor, we need to fully understand what they do. Doctors our people that cure their patients of diagnosing illnesses. They treat injuries by examining the patient. They also perform procedures, such as taking medical histories, prescribing medications, and conducting tests. After they have made the patient happy, they usually give the person tips of how this incident would not happen again. And if you are a well trained and smart doctor those tips help the patient a lot.

What you need to have before applying for medical school

Well now let’s get to the main point, shall we? First things first a student must earn a Bachelors degree. It is required to get into medical school. The medical school also wants a bright, student with a broad educational background. With a bachelors degree, you also need a solid foundation in natural science (the human body).

All medical school applicants need to complete graduate coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, you also have to take a MCAT also known as Medical College Admissions Test. In this test you are going to be tested on biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, also a standard examination that is designed to assess you on your Problem-Solving skills, Verbal Reasoning, Writing Skills.

Get a medical degree

Medical school programs generally last four years. The first two years usually focus on classroom and laboratory work, while the last two years gives you a chance to work directly with patients under the supervision of experienced Doctor. Medical school coursework generally covers topics in pharmacology, pathology, anatomy, and biochemistry. Students also study the practice of medicine and legal issues related to healthcare, and how to give a patient the right type of medicine. The clinical experiences that students participate in cover a variety of specialty areas, including neurology, radiology, and medicine. The clinical experiences also give you a chance to find out what type of residency you would prefer to track down after you graduate medical school.

Completing a residency program

Residency programs offer aspiring doctors the opportunity to work directly with patients in a specialty area of medicine. Some Specialty area is internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry. Depending on what type of specialty area you chose a residency can last from 3 to 8 years. The length varies—general internal medicine and pediatrics take three years; general surgery generally five; cardiothoracic heart surgery takes about 3-year to 6-year.

Obtain a Licensure

All states require physicians to be licensed before allowing them to practice medicine with real human beings. Graduation from an accredited medical school is required before qualifying for a license, candidates must complete residency training program and pass exams, such as  The Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE), through the Medical Council of Canada Self Administered Evaluating Examination (SAE – EE).  Comprehensive Osteopathic medical licensing examination.

Get Certified

This one is OPTIONAL, but it has a high percent of increasing the employment opportunities. A professional designation can demonstrate that a doctor is an expert in a specified area of medicine. You have to pass an examination process designed to test your mastery of the minimum knowledge and skills contained in the core competency document. Prior to taking the examination, a physician must graduate with a degree, either MD or DO, and meet all other essentials to certificate a set s score by the certifying agency or board.
